2016: a bumper year for wind farm construction

According to Renewable UK, onshore wind developers are planning to install 1.2GW of new capacity with 50 new wind farms. That’s enough to supply another 660,000 homes and three times the amount installed in 2015 (400MW). Construction is also due to start on another 1.9MW of new offshore wind farms, bringing the total to 4.5GW of offshore wind farms under construction. Looks like we could reach enough to supply more than 10 million homes in the next couple of years. This is good news indeed but policies introduced in 2015, particularly for onshore wind, mean an uncertain future beyond 2016.\r\n\r\nhttp://www.renewableuk.com/en/news/press-releases.cfm/23-12-2015-busy-year-of-construction-activity-ahead-for-british-wind-industry-but-onshore-wind-faces-uncertain-future
